Paros at a Crossroads: Construction, Community, and the New Urban Plan

A public discussion on the problems posed by the increasing rate of construction on Paros and the new Local Urban Plan on the horizon

Kyklos Paros Cultural Society, in collaboration with the Friends of Paros and Antiparos, invites you to a public discussion on the critical issues shaping the future of our island. With construction escalating at an unprecedented rate and the new Local Urban Plan (LUP) on the horizon, this meeting aims to foster open dialogue, share insights, and gather community perspectives.

Key speakers include:

  • Nikos Malatestas, head of the municipal committee for the preparation of the proposals for the LUP

  • Tonia Pandelaiou, economist, educator, and member of the Paros Citizens’ Movement

  • Mayor of Paros, Kostas Bizas, with a planned intervention during the session

This is a timely opportunity for residents, professionals, and friends of Paros to voice their concerns and contribute to shaping a future for the island that reflects the will and values of its people—rather than the direction imposed by unchecked development.

I really hope will be decided to stop building so many new houses/villas. We’re going to destroy Paros just to get rich someone.

My question is, 1. are the laws already in place to prevent uncontrolled developments in the island? 2. Are builders and homeowners following the laws? 3. Is bravery a reason why we see homes build where they should not? 4. Who really implements and oversees them?
