KYKLOS PAROS proudly presents the third edition of From Bach to Blues.

Pianists Maroulia Kontou and Heleen Schuttevaêr join forces with Marc Buronfosse on bass and Giannis Papanikolas on drums for an adventurous mix of well-known classical works, blues and jazz standards.

Maroulia brings her expertise in classical piano technique, while Heleen contributes her flexibility in jazz improvisation. Performing in various combinations with the rhythm section, the musicians move back and forth from Bach to Brubeck, Gillespie to Piazzolla, and Chopin to Nina Simone.

Serenity and reflection alternate with tension, drama and swing.

Maroulia Kontou – Piano

Maroulia Kontou (Paros, Greece) is an acclaimed pianist, composer and director of the Mythodia Conservatory on Paros. She is the initiator and artistic director of numerous concerts, including the successful annual Opera Under the Stars at the Paros Park Festival. Together with Heleen Schuttevaêr, she developed the successful musical concept From Bach to Blues, combining classical piano music with blues and jazz.

Heleen Schuttevaêr – Piano & Vocals

Heleen Schuttevaêr (Utrecht, the Netherlands) developed from a self-taught pianist into a respected jazz pianist and vocalist. She performs nationally and internationally with a wide range of jazz musicians. For many years, she has been active in the music scene on Paros, collaborating with artists including Petros Varthakouris, Vasilis Rakopoulos, Maroulia Kontou and Marc Buronfosse.

Marc Buronfosse – Bass

Marc Buronfosse (Paris, France) studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and The New School in New York with renowned musicians Gary Peacock, Marc Johnson and Mark Dresser. He has performed and recorded with leading jazz musicians and ensembles worldwide. He teaches jazz double bass at the Conservatoire de Paris and is the artistic director of the Paros MAM Festival & Academy.

Giannis Papanikolas – Drums

Giannis Papanikolas (Athens, Greece) studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with jazz drummer Bruno Castellucci and bassist Michel Hatzigeorgiou of Aka Moon. He is an experienced drummer performing in a wide range of musical styles, from ethnic music and pop to jazz classics and avant-garde, both in Greece and internationally. As the new drum teacher at the Mythodia Conservatory, he brings his experience and passion for jazz to Paros.
